Parts of the Whole

Conrad Wilde Gallery
Tucson, Arizona, USA
October 2007

Conrad Wilde Gallery is pleased to present our season-opening exhibition, Parts of the Whole featuring five artists working in collage and assemblage. The exhibition opens in our Main Gallery with a reception Saturday, October 6th in conjunction with the Central Tucson Gallery Association's gallery walk- The Big Picture. The show runs through Saturday, October 27th.

It has often been said that "Life is in the details". Parts of the Whole is a visual celebration of the interconnectedness of that which seems fragmentary, unworthy of notice, lost or elusive. Tucson favorites David Adix, Catherine Nash, and Margaret Suchland will be featured along with New York artists Greg Stephens and Jef Sunheim. Works on display will be gorgeously crafted from found-objects, found-images and ephemera, hand-made paper, elements from nature, wax, and other materials.

Of all the Parters, New Yorker Greg Stephens sticks closest to painting, but look closely, and you'll see printed pictures glued in between layers of bumpy, rusty-colored acrylics. "Detained" has a sensuous St. Sebastian pushing at the rafters that rein him in, and nearby, a pair of 1950s gents in crewcuts.
